How to Zombie Proof Your Home - Halloween Edition

Yup, it’s that time of year and with Halloween comes ghouls, goblins and zombies. And while I’m talking about the costumes your neighborhood kiddos will be wearing on Halloween night, it's natural to consider hypothetical plans for fortifying your home—just in case real zombies decide to make their debut on the living that night.

OK, it's not all that normal and very unlikely that it would happen but, in any case, check out these critical “zombie-proofing improvements” you can make to your home.

Windows

Homes with tempered-glass windows or with wrought-iron security bars will be far better equipped than those with unguarded single-pane windows. In addition to tempered-glass windows, newer double paned windows will add value to your home but also make Zombies put in the effort to get into your home.

A much costlier improvement would be to install hurricane shutters on all first-floor windows. Not sure what those are? They are the same type of roll-down steel gates that some retailers pull downt o secure their secure their stores at the end of the night (imagine a garage door over your window). They're easy to operate and offer the best protection for existing windows against zombies.

Doors

One of the simplest ways to combat the zombies is to retrofit your house with stainless-steel doors and a heavy-duty lock. An advantage to installing stainless-steel door is they typically come cheaper than wooden doors.

Want to beef up the doors for added “zombie proofing?” Install a security gate on the doors. While security doors do not take or add value to your home, you will have peace of mind knowing that your home will be impenetrable when “Z-Day” comes.

Border Security

While a mote seems like a logical decision when prepping for “Z-day,” consider the time, effort, permits and cost you will need to make and accrue.  A more reasonable Zombie improvement would be a chain link fence. Good Fences = Good Zombie barrier. A well installed chain-link fence can help keep the Zombies at a safe distance and add value to your home.

While speculation and hypotheticals are fun to ponder on, I wouldn't spend very much time fretting about Zombies. At the end of the day, I recommend making improvements you want for your home that will help add value, regardless of any Zombie invasion.

If you're thinking about buying or selling a home, zombie proof or not, give me a call today to discuss your options.

Ramona: Small Town America and Why You WANT to Live Here!

Living in a small town may not be for everyone.  For folks who have grown up living in the city or on the coast, moving to a small town can cause a little culture shock.  However, once you’ve settled in and really begin to explore and grow with your community you will find that small town living may just be the best living!!  Let’s explore a little more about this small town you may be considering moving to.

Ramona is an unincorporated town on the outskirts of San Diego County.  Although Ramona has grown significantly over the last few years it continues to keep true to its small town roots, with many community events that promote Ramona’s history and traditions.  From The American Graffiti Cruise Nights every Thursday in the Spring and Summer to the Ramona Jr Fair which brings out the local 4H’rs and FFH kids and the livestock that they raise for the fair.  Ramona is also famous for their Rodeo which brings cowboys from all over the country to ride their horses and wrestle cattle.  It is truly the epitome of a small country town.

If you are looking for a place that will welcome you and your family with open arms you have found the right place.  Speaking of families, Ramona is the PERFECT place to raise a family.

Schools

The community has 6 elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools.  Two of the elementary schools are in the San Diego Country Estates area of town, while the other 4 elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools are in town.

Sports

There are many sports available to the youth (non-high school) of Ramona year-round.

Ramona also features some great things for Adults to do as well.  With two CrossFit gyms, and 5 other gyms that cater to your personal needs, you won’t have to travel far to get fit in Ramona!  Hiking trails are also in abundance in Ramona.  From the Grassland Preserve to Mt. Gower Open Space Preserve to the Famous Potato Chip Rock, you will find a hiking trail that you LOVE I guarantee it!

Mt. Woodson/Potato Chip Rock

Ramona Grasslands Preserve

Cedar Creek Falls

Mt. Gower Open Space Preserve

Wineries

Over the past few years Ramona has seen the emergence of many small wineries and tasting rooms.  Although Ramona has a history of vineyards and families in the wine business, it has really been over the past few years that Ramona has seen this industry take a larger and more prominent place in town.  With over 26 independent vineyards we are seeing a steady growth in this specialty business.  With many of the wineries/tasting rooms in beautiful picturesque locations all around Ramona, the draw to visit these businesses has greatly increased.  On top of this their wines are simply wonderful!

In addition to the wonderful Wineries Ramona also has several farm stands that offer a wide range of fruits, veggies, homemade and home grown items for the community.  Each one is a little different but all of them are awesome!

One of the other great things about Ramona is that it really is pretty close to everything.  It is about a 40-minute drive to the beaches, 45-minute drive to Down Town San Diego or the airport, and an hour and a half to Disneyland.  So you really get the best of both worlds living here.  You get the quiet small town out of the city, and yet you are still close enough to commute to work and anywhere you want to go in a short amount of time.

I can tell you that making the move to Ramona may be the best decision you ever make!

So have we convinced you that Ramona is the PERFECT place to live yet?  Well, if you still need some convincing give us a call and we would be happy to show you how great our small town really is, and how much more home you can get for your money in Ramona!  Give us a call today!

Deb listened to our interests and needs before making any recommendations. We lived in a remote area of Ramona and she did a lot of research of comparable prices in the area that even the appraiser had missed. We found Deb and her team to be helpful and always available. She was able to get us a fair price for our property in a reasonable period of time.   Thanks Deb!

Ok, ok here is what you have ALL been waiting for! Everyone loves a CONTEST!!! This one let's you get a discount on wine!  Even better right!!

Ok so here’s the deets (details for you peeps not hip on my contest lingo) Take a look at the photo.   There are 6 wineries pictured.  If you can guess even one of them, you can take this photo (I’d do a screenshot on your phone, but that’s just me) and go to one of the wineries, show them the picture, and if they say you are right then you get $1 off your glass of wine!  So worth it right!!! This is*not valid with any other winery specials. Only valid on glasses.

So let me give you an example (this is totally not an answer or a clue so don’t actually go to this one and try it and then get mad at me.  But do go there because the wine is AMAZING!!) You think that one of the photos resembles something you have seen at Barrel 1 winery, so you take a screen shot of the photo head over to Barrel 1 show Audrey the photo and ask if you are right…she says yes (if Barrel1 was on there) and you would get a $1 off a glass of wine.   See easy peasy and you get a $1 off a glass of wine!  #winning  So take a look and go explore some wineries and enjoy your weekend!!!

don't forget **not valid with any other winery specials. Only valid on glasses!

Lastly starting this Sunday there will be a Support group for parents who have lost a child.  This group will be so beneficial to anyone who has ever lost a child.  Sometimes the only people who understand what you are going through are people who have been through it as well.  This new group will meet once a month. Meeting July 31st at 6:30pm. Please call Sheri for details. 760-443-6861.

Our Weekend In Ramona

 Hi Ramona Friends!

Thursdays are a funny day for me.  I gather the weekend happenings throughout the week in preparation for putting it all together and writing it on Thursday.  Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out the intro to the weekend.  Ramona is a special place, I truly believe that and I want to convey just the right message so other people can feel that too!  This week we are starting our weekend off with our cruise night as we always do, but this week I feel like our cruise has a little more meaning.  Tonight’s cruise is dedicated to our law enforcement men and women.  Tonight we honor them and show them we appreciate them!  I’m hoping that tonight is our biggest and best cruise ever.  If you are planning on going grab or bring a small flag to wave as the cars drive by.  Let’s show people what Ramona is really about!  Ramona stands behind the thin blue line!  We are a community that cares!  That is how we want to be known!
