It seems like it has started out to be a pretty eventful week already with the rains and flooding, but there is still more to come this week in Ramona.
Tonight is the Ramona American Graffiti Cruise Night at 7:15pm. Perhaps you will see us sitting out in front of Pamo Valley Winery Tasting Room watching the cars go by. There are plenty of businesses who are doing fun things to celebrate Thursday nights in Ramona. Pamo Valley Winery Tasting Room is having their amazing Sangria available for $5 a glass, along with street tacos from Pepe’s Produce (yum) 3 tacos for $5 while supplies last! Packards has a special menu tonight with a Pulled Pork sandwich meal with homemade mac’n cheese, cole slaw, and baked beans. Comfort food heaven!!! I’m hungry and it’s only 11:30am. They will also have Brats, Hot Dogs, Ice Cream and Peach Cobbler. I think I’ve gained ten pounds just writing about it.
Many other local businesses are open late tonight for all of the cruise goers. So take a walk through town tonight and support our local businesses!
After the Flood
So many people have been affected by the flooding that happened on Sunday and my heart goes out to each of the families who are still struggling to put their homes and properties back together. It is so hard to see such amazing families displaced and facing the next few weeks and months of repairs. While the rain may be gone the remnants of this weekend still remain. Here is some helpful information that you should you know that could prove to be very useful over the next few days.
If you have any standing water around your house or property please dump it if possible. Standing water can lead to mosquitoes which can carry West Nile Virus. This water can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes so do your best to get rid of it. If you cannot get rid of the water then you may be able to help prevent mosquitoes from breeding there by adding a little mineral oil to the water. You do not need to add much; just a few drops per puddle can greatly decrease your chances of having mosquitoes inhabit those areas where there is still standing water. If you have a pond you may want to run to Lowe’s to get some mosquito dunks to help keep them away.
If you have a rain barrel or are collecting water to use for your landscaping, cover it as soon as possible so that mosquitoes don’t breed there. The other thing that you can do is to get mosquito eating fish these fish are available from the County for free.
Clean out any debris that may be in your rain gutters preventing water to flow out. Rain gutters are the most common areas that are overlooked when it comes to mosquito breeding sites.
If you are out working on your property to do clean up please remember to wear long sleeves and pants or use a mosquito repellent to keep those pesky bugs away. Mosquitoes like to come out early in the morning or as the sun goes down at night so try to not be outside during those times.
Double check your screens and windows to make sure that the mosquitoes cannot get into your house.
If you did have damage to your home or property the County will be getting trash bins to help out around Ramona and the Country Estates. There will be no charge to use these trash bins.
Lastly I just want to again say how proud I am to live in this great community. It has truly touched my heart to see how this great town comes together in times of need. Neighbor helping neighbor. Ramona is such a wonderful place to live and I’m so glad that my family and I can be a part of it.
