One of the really cool things about about our town is that we have so many hidden treasures waiting to be explored. This morning I was lucky enough to visit and get a sneak peek at one of these amazing new places that I am hoping will not be hidden, but just something that the community will treasure.
A Classic Tale Book store opens it's doors this Friday and will be a place where children can come and get their favorite book. They can sit and read in a bean bag chair while their Mom and Dad can find a good book for themselves as well. Julia Dammier who previously was a co-owner of Unicorn Books and Gifts spent a lot of time creating a space that is perfect for the whole family to visit. She wanted to "cultivate a family friendly atmosphere where people can come and bring their kids and hang out." And let me tell you, you won't be disappointed when you walk into her store! I love the idea of a book store that fits the mold of Meg Ryan's Shop Around The Corner in You've Got Mail. This lovely little shop is the closest thing that I have seen to this and promises to be the place your children will want to go.
Julia has so many amazing things planned for her book shop. There are plans for a homework club, where kids can come and work on their homework together, kids clubs, and story book reading. Her wide array of fun science books, gadgets, and do-dads are sure to be a hit with kids who love to experiment. In December a grand affair is planned to celebrate all of our children's favorite elves. On Friday evening December 18th, A Classic Tale will be hosting the annual Elf on the Shelf party where Miss Lisa will come and read The Elf on the Shelf and other classic Christmas stories. Kids will enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, and really get into the holiday spirit.
One of the things that my son and I have always loved to do is go out on "dates" together. We pick a day or evening, head to the book store and he gets to pick a book to sit and read while we hang out together. He loves it! Until now, there hasn't been a place that was so geared toward children that we could go to. This book shop will be our "go to" place from now on. With books for the kids, and books for the parents, how can you go wrong? For us, Julia and her book shop will be creating a new tradition. The thing that I love most, it allows me to stay local and support a business that I think is going to be bringing so much to Ramona.
On top of all the great books there is also a fabulous gift section with a wide array of localized gifts and souvenirs.
From handmade coffee mugs to locally made Ramona Wine Candles, soaps, lotions, and much more, A Classic Tale will offer unique "Ramona" souvenirs that will make the perfect gift or for people to remember Ramona by.
This bookshop will fill a space that families are looking for, and Julia could not be any nicer! Be sure that you stop in and say hi on Friday while you are out trick or treating through town! A Classic Tale will be opening its doors especially for you! Their regular business hours will be Tuesday - Friday 10-6, and Saturday and Sunday 10-5. The shop will be closed on Mondays.
